Now that Fall is approaching, fisherman will be flocking to the shore to try their luck at reeling in that big catch. While many come to the area to chase the red drum, plenty of other migratory species are swimming south for the season through the warmer waters providing anglers a better chance at a successful cast. This year, Seaside Vacations is sponsoring the 2019 Outer Banks Kayak Fishing Tournament—an awesome kayak-based photo catch & release fishing competition hosted by Kitty Hawk Surf Co. in Nags Head. Registration is only $50 and you can compete from anywhere on the Outer Banks within the water boundaries (listed below). The competition runs a full day on Saturday and most of the day on Sunday September 14th - September 15th so there is plenty of time to compete.
The species sought for this tournament are flounder, speckled trout and red drum. Prizes will be given out in the Slam series, individual series, and “sea monster” category (for non-tournament species). Kitty Hawk Surf Co. partners with sportswear and boating brands to provide awesome prizes for winners in each category… but you also get bragging rights, of course! At the conclusion of the tournament, a post-event cookout at Kitty Hawk Surf Co. will feature an awards ceremon along with fun games, a prize raffle, and great food.

2019 Outer Banks Kayak Fishing Tournament
Event: 6th Annual Outer Banks Kayak Fishing Tournament hosted by Kitty Hawk Surf Co. and Sponsored by Seaside Vacations
Date: Saturday, September 14, 2019 – Sunday, September 15, 2019
Time: Tournament runs from 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM Saturday and 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM Sunday
Location: Outer Banks wide
Boundaries: Kayaks must be kept in between the following boundaries: North: Wright Memorial Bridge, South: Hatteras Inlet, East: one (1) mile offshore, West: Currituck and Manns Harbor shoreline.
Tournament Qualifications: Slam division is one (1) of each tournament species: Flounder, Speckled Trout, and Red Drum. Prizes are favored based on fulfilling each species over length. Entries submitted for Slam division may not also be entered in individual categories. Anglers can only place once in each individual division. The “Sea Monster” category will be awarded to the angler who catches the most unique fish (separate from tournament species). Wading is prohibited. Personal flotation devices MUST be worn. Schedule:
- September 13 (Friday): Captain’s Meeting (mandatory for all competitors) at 6:00 PM (Kitty Hawk Surf Co. at MP 12.5)
- September 14 (Saturday): Competition – 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM EST
- September 15 (Sunday): Competition – 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM EST; Awards Banquet – 5:00 PM (Kitty Hawk Surf Co. at MP 12.5)
Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries in each category with an award to the “sea monster” category chosen by the tournament director.
