Everyone loves a good home makeover—especially when a beach house gets upgraded! One of the condos in our program, Sands Shamrock, just got a fantastic update from its owners after suffering damage from Hurricane Dorian, and it turned out so wonderful that we wanted to share it with our guests.
Sands Shamrock is a 2-bedroom 2-bath condo in Kill Devil Hills. Sitting right on the beach and being on the third floor, the oceanfront views from the private balcony are unbeatable! In fact, the sunrises and sunsets you’ll see are so beautiful that it totally justifies your vacation. However, visitors to Sands Shamrock (part of The Sands Condominiums) will also enjoy community benefits like a large swimming pool, coin-operated laundry, and plenty of parking. Plus, the condo is in a wonderful location around Milepost 7 near great restaurants, awesome shopping centers, and other local attractions.

A Message From The Owners:
"Our family has owned this condo since 2001, in one form or another. My mother-in-law originally purchased it and was fond of saying, 'They all look the same when your eyes are closed,' about condos and hotel rooms. It’s true so my wife and I had wanted to do some upgrades for years and oddly enough, a hurricane gave us the opportunity.
When Dorian hit in September of 2019, we didn’t think it would have that much of an impact on our building at the Sands. After all, it’s been there for 40 years and has seen its share of Atlantic storms. But Dorian actually did a number on the roof of our building, and that forced an early closure.
Since our unit is on the top floor and the northeast corner of the building, we got the brunt of the damage. To replace the ceilings in our unit, everything had to be moved into a storage unit. And I do mean EVERYTHING. The only thing left were the bathroom sinks, the stove and the refrigerator. It’s daunting enough to move everything out, but it gave us the chance to do renovations while not disturbing the rest of the unit. We got to work on picking out cabinets, countertops, sinks and a dishwasher that would bring our kitchen into the 21st century.
COVID stopped everything in March and April, which put us behind schedule, but eventually, we were able to update some other furniture and move everything back in. Moving is our least favorite chore and this was no exception, but we couldn’t be happier with the results! And my mother-in-law was right: it all looks the same when your eyes are closed. But now when you open them, the view inside looks as good as the view outside! We hope our renters will enjoy the changes as much as we do!"
