The OBX is a very romantic place to visit and the perfect place to ask your loved one to be with you forever. To help you plan the perfect proposal on your OBX vacation, we’ve assembled a list of our top 10 heart melting Outer Banks vacation proposal ideas that will make a BIG impression that is sure to melt your significant other’s heart.
1. Moonlight Walk on The Beach
Pick a clear, star-filled night during your OBX vacation and ask your sweetheart to take a romantic walk on the beach with you. The moonlit ocean in conjunction with the hundreds of stars will set the perfect stage for you to pop the question.
2. Sunset Ferry Back From Ocracoke
Take a day-trip to Ocracoke Island and spend the entire day enjoying the quaint island’s local shops and restaurants. Plan to take one of the last ferries of the day (right before sunset) back to Hatteras Island and pop the question on the ferry deck. Don’t be surprised if everyone on board starts cheering and clapping!
3. Top of Outer Banks Lighthouse
One of my personal favorite ideas. Travel to one of the three Outer Banks lighthouses that allow visitors to climb to the top (Currituck, Bodie Island, Hatteras) and get down on one knee at the very top. The breathtaking scenery along with your everlasting commitment should make for a proposal your loved one will never forget.
4. Elizabethan Gardens
A popular spot for weddings on the Outer Banks, the Elizabethan Gardens are also an ideal spot for a marriage proposal. When you arrive, grab a map and find the gazebo on the water toward the back of the gardens. Once there, get down on one knee and ask your sweetheart to spend the rest of their life with you. The incredible scenery of the gardens along with the delightful smell of flowers make this an ideal spot to ask for your dearest’s hand in marriage.
5. Sunset Kayak Tour
One of the more creative ideas out of the list — Kitty Hawk Kites offers several night kayak tours along the Outer Banks including a Bodie Island bioluminescence night kayak tour that I highly recommend. You and your darling can paddle along with one of their experienced kayak tour guides and see the beauty of the marsh after dark in search for bioluminescence. Be sure to let your guide in on the proposal so they’ll know to give you a little space when the moments right. The moonlit water along with the lit up Bodie Island Lighthouse in the distance make this a fantastic way to pop the question.
